Sausage tree
An evergreen tree of the Bignoniaceae family native to Africa, which grows to a height of 6-17 m and has large sausage-like fruits that hang from long stalks (illustration). The twigs have large leaf markings. The leaves are opposite or in whorls of 3, odd-pinnate compound. There are 7-13 leaflets, oval, oblong or slightly obovate, glabrous, 7.5-15 cm long. The pendulous panicle is 1-2 m long including the pedicel, and most of the branches are in whorls of 3, with a small number of flowers. The pedicels are 8-18 cm long and curve upward at the tips.

アフリカ原産のノウゼンカズラ科の常緑高木で,高さ6~17mとなり,ソーセージに似た大きな果実が長い果梗の先にぶらさがる(イラスト)。小枝には大きな葉印がある。葉は対生または3枚輪生,奇数羽状複葉。小葉は7~13枚,卵円形,長楕円形またはやや倒卵形で無毛,長さ7.5~15cm。下垂する円錐花序は花梗を含め長さ1~2m,花序の枝は大部分が3個輪生で,少数の花をつける。小花梗は長さ8~18cmで先端は上方に湾曲している。
