Chinese-Japanese Dictionary - Kanwajiten

A dictionary that shows the pronunciation and reading of kanji and provides interpretations for compound words. The kanji in the heading is called the parent character, and modern Japanese-Chinese dictionaries are based on a radical index, with a sound-reading index and a total stroke index. The parent character is interpreted with the pronunciation, Japanese reading, name, four tones, and character shape. In addition to the interpretation, compound words and phrases are also shown with their source. Since the Gyokuhen (543) compiled by Gu Ye Wang of the Southern Liang Dynasty became popular in Japan, and the Tenrei Bansho Meigi (830) compiled by Kukai, Japanese-Chinese dictionaries have been compiled one after another. Modern compilation began in 1912 (Taisho 1) with the New Translation of the Chinese-Japanese Dictionary (Shinyaku Kanwa Daijiten) compiled by Hamano Chisaburo.

漢字の音(おん)と訓(よみ)を示し、熟語を解釈した辞典。標目の漢字を親字といい、部首索引を基本とし、音訓索引、総画索引を付しているのが近代的索引の漢和辞典である。親字に、字音、日本訓(よみ)、名乗(なのり)、四声(しせい)、字形を解釈する。また、熟語、成句は解釈のほかに出典を示している。南朝梁(りょう)の顧野王(こやおう)編『玉篇(ぎょくへん)』（543）が日本に盛行し、空海編『篆隷万象名義(てんれいばんしょうめいぎ)』（830）以来、漢和辞典が次々に編纂(へんさん)された。近代的編著は1912年（大正1）浜野知三郎編『新訳漢和大字典』に始まった。
