Rudbeckia - Rudbeckia

Japanese: ルドベキア - るどべきあ
Rudbeckia - Rudbeckia

A general term for the genus Rudbeckia in the Asteraceae family. It is an annual, biennial or perennial plant native to North America, and about 25 species are known. R. hirta L. is an annual or biennial plant, 50-90 cm tall. The leaves at the bottom are large and lanceolate, more than 10 cm long, while those at the top are small and oblong or lanceolate. The flower heads are solitary and terminal, with black or dark brown central flowers and golden yellow marginal flowers with dark brown bases. Cultivars include gloriosa daisy and the double gloriosa daisy. R. bicolor Nutt. is an annual plant with almost unbranched stems, 50-60 cm tall. The flowers are large, measuring 7 to 8 centimeters, with black central flowers and brownish purple bases on the edges, mostly yellow. Together with the previous species, it is used for flower beds and as cut flowers.

It is very hardy, and some perennials have become naturalized. For propagation, annual and biennial plants are propagated by seedlings sown in late April to early May, while perennial plants are generally propagated by division.
