Takachiho [town] - Takachiho
A town in Nishiusuki County in the northwest of Miyazaki Prefecture. It occupies the upper reaches of the Gokase River and is located to the south of Mount Sobo. Most of the town is forest and wilderness. Paddy fields have been developed in the Aso lava hills, and livestock are raised here. Tobacco, vegetables, and shiitake mushrooms are also cultivated here. National Route 218 runs through the town, and it is part of the Sobokatamuki Quasi-National Park, where Takachiho Gorge is located. Area: 237.54 km2 . Population: 13,723 (2010).
