Song Si-yeol

A scholar and politician from the Yi Dynasty of Korea. His pen name was Yeongbo, his pen name was Yuan, and his posthumous name was Munjeong. At the time, repeated factional strife pitted Westerners and Southerners against each other, with the Southerners defeated and the Westerners splitting into Soron and Noron. He played an active role as the leader of the Noron faction, and during the reign of the 17th king, Hyojong, he advocated and promoted a plan to invade the North against Qing. After the reign of Hyeonjong, who succeeded Hyojong, he repeatedly engaged in fierce factional strife with the Southerners and Soron, and was executed by the next king, Sukjong. A great Confucian scholar who devoted his life to Neo-Confucianism, he inherited the academic tradition of Yulgok Yi I, and became the mainstream of the Kiho school. He was also knowledgeable about etiquette regarding mourning, and trained many scholars. His books include "An Examination of the Similarities and Differences of Zhu Xi's Discourses," "The Complete Works of Song Zi," and "The Complete Works of Zhu Xi: Questions and Doubts."
