Year of birth: Year of birth and death unknown. He is famous as a Buddhist believer in the early period (6th century). The Ikebe Nao clan was one of the many clans that split off from the Tokan clan, a naturalized Chinese descendant of Chinese. According to the entry for the 13th year of Bidatsu (584) in the Nihon Shoki, when Soga no Umako acquired two Buddhist statues, he ordered Shiba Tatsuto and himself to search for practitioners, and found a former monk called Ebin. He then used Ebin as his teacher to make three nuns, including Zenshin-ni, into nuns. They are said to be the first nuns in Japan to enter the priesthood. Also, in the 5th chapter of the first volume of the Nihon Ryōiki, during the reign of Emperor Bidatsu, when it was decided to make a Buddhist statue out of camphor wood obtained from the sea, he carved three Buddhist statues. These are said to be the Amida statues at Hisoji Temple in Yoshino. The Nihon Shoki includes this story in the entry for the 14th year of Kinmei.
