Japanese: せん光放電灯(閃光放電灯) - せんこうほうでんとう（英語表記）flashing discharge lamp

Also called a flash lamp. A discharge lamp filled with low-pressure xenon gas. A DC power source such as a battery is boosted and rectified using a transistor inverter, a capacitor of several tens of μF is charged to about 2000 V, and a separately generated trigger voltage is applied to the lamp's trigger electrode to discharge, producing a powerful flash of light. Compared to a flash bulb, it can be used more than 10,000 times. The flash duration is a few tenths of a millisecond, making it suitable for synchronous photography, with the light intensity being comparable to that of a flash bulb and the light color being close to natural daylight. A flash discharge lamp combined with a charging and discharging device is called an auto strobe, and many of them are integrated into cameras.

フラッシュランプともいう。低圧のキセノンガスを封入した放電灯。電池など直流電源をトランジスターインバーターで昇圧整流し，数十μFのコンデンサーを2000Vくらいに充電，別に発生させたトリガー電圧をランプのトリガー電極に加えて放電させると強力なせん光を発する。せん光電球に比べて，1万回以上の使用に耐える。せん光時間が10分の数ミリ秒でシンクロ撮影に適し，光量はせん光電球並みで光色は自然昼光に近い。せん光放電灯と充放電装置を組み込んだものはオートストロボと呼ばれ，カメラと一体になったものも多い。
