Semine [town] - Semine
A former town in Kurihara County in northern Miyagi Prefecture. It is served by the Tohoku Main Line and is an important bus transportation location. Agriculture is the main industry, and the town produces mainly rice, tobacco leaves, and vegetables. Dairy farming is also practiced. In April 2005, it merged with the towns of Tsuchidate, Wakayagi, Kurikoma, Takashimizu, Ichisako, Uguisuzawa, Kanari, Shibahime, and Hanayama in Kurihara County to become a city, Kurihara City. Area: 29.28 km2 . Population: 5,509 (2003).
