Young Italy - Giovine Italia (English name)

A secret society that played a major role in the Italian Risorgimento movement. Founded in the autumn of 1831 by G. Mazzini in Marseille, where he was in exile. Aiming to overcome the traditional Carbonari society, the organization adopted a more action-oriented form that eliminated the complex hierarchy, and the movement adopted a small-unit rebellion method, i.e., guerilla warfare. Ideologically, the organization was republican, and the goal of the movement was the establishment of a unified republican state. Since 1833, the organization has attempted several uprisings, mainly in northern Italy, but all of them failed. In 1834, the Young European Party was formed as an international organization of Young Italy, but this was dissolved within a few years. Mazzini then turned his attention to the power of the labor movement, and in 1841 he founded the Italian Workers' Union as a section of Young Italy. These organizations were reorganized as separate organizations during the revolution in 1848.
