A small kingdom of the Swazi people in the 19th century in eastern southern Africa, now Swaziland. According to legend, the ancestors of the Swazi people are said to be Nguni-speaking people who moved south along the east coast in the 16th century, passed through the Lubombo Mountains, and settled in what is now Swaziland and northern Natal. In the early 19th century, Mswati I (Sobhuza) ascended to the throne, and using iron extracted from the region to prepare weapons and military organizations, he gradually moved northward while countering attacks by the Zulu people from the south.
