Sultanzade (English spelling)

1889‐1938
An international communist activist from Iran. Born to an Armenian family in Maragheh, a provincial city in Azerbaijan. Emigrated to Russia at the age of 13. Joined the Russian Social Democratic Labor Party in 1912. A founding member of the Communist Party of Iran (1919), he served as Iran's representative to the Congress of Eastern Peoples in Baku (1920). At the Second Congress of Comintern (1920), he spoke alongside MN Roy, the Indian representative, in calling for the socialist revolution in Asia to be put on the agenda. He later edited the Iranian Communist Party's journals, Peikār and Setāre‐ye Sorkh, but is said to have been purged by Stalin.

イラン出身の国際共産主義の活動家。アゼルバイジャンの地方都市マラーゲのアルメニア人家庭に生まれる。13歳のときロシアに移住。1912年ロシア社会民主労働党に入党。イラン共産党創立(1919)メンバー，バクーの東方諸民族大会イラン代表(1920)を務める。コミンテルン第2回大会(1920)では，インド代表のM.N.ローイとならんで，アジアにおける社会主義革命を日程に上らせることを主張。その後，イラン共産党系の機関誌《闘争Peikār》《赤い星Setāre‐ye Sorkh》の編集に携わるが，スターリンにより粛清されたといわれる。
