Year of death: Tenpyo Jingo 1 (765) Year of birth: Unknown. A member of the imperial family during the Nara period. Grandson of Prince Toneri. Son of Prince Mihara. He was given the surname Oka no Masato for a time, but later reverted to his royal title. In 764, he forewarned of Fujiwara no Nakamaro's rebellion, and was promoted to Junior Third Rank, Councillor, and Minister of War for his achievements. When Emperor Junnin was dethroned, on October 9 of the same year, Minister of War Wake no Oji and others surrounded the Chuguin where the Emperor was. In 765, as Emperor Shotoku had no heir, he wanted the throne himself, so he planned a rebellion with Awata Michimaro, Otsu Oura, Ishikawa Nagatoshi, and others, but it was discovered. He was arrested at Satsuma Shrine (Nara City) while on the run, and on his way to exile in Izu Province (Shizuoka Prefecture), he was strangled to death in Soraku County, Yamashiro Province, and buried in Koma-no-o (Seika Town, Kyoto Prefecture).
