Also written as Futu, Butsuzu, and Puzu. A different character for Buddha used in China from the Late Han to the early Wei and Jin dynasties. It is also a transliteration of the Sanskrit Buddha, or a transliteration of the Central Asian phonetic pronunciation of Onka-futo. After Kumarajiva entered the court, it was changed to Buddha.
