A type of mint. There are many types of mint, but the leaves of spearmint and peppermint are used as spices. They have a stronger fragrance than Japanese mint and a slightly sweeter taste. They are used in lamb and mutton dishes, meat and fish soups, as well as cocktails and jellies.

ハッカの1種。ハッカは種類が多いが、香辛料として使われるのはスペアミントとペパーミントの葉である。日本のハッカより香りが高く、やや甘い感じが強い。ラムやマトンの料理、肉や魚のスープのほかに、カクテル、ゼリーにも用いられる。
