Subandrio - Subandrio (English spelling)

Indonesian politician and diplomat. Born in East Java. Graduated from Jakarta Medical University in 1942. Became Deputy Minister of Intelligence in 1947, first ambassador to the Soviet Union in 1954, and Minister of Foreign Affairs in 1957. Promoted anti-imperialist, anti-colonial non-aligned diplomacy, including the issue of dual nationality for overseas Chinese and the liberation of West Irian. In 1963, he served as First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Director of the Central Intelligence Agency, and became a central figure in the radical Sukarno regime. He was arrested for his involvement in the "September 30th Incident" in 1965, and sentenced to death by a special military tribunal in 1966, but his sentence was commuted to life imprisonment in 1970. In August 1995, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of independence, he was released for the first time in 30 years, citing "old age and deteriorating health."

インドネシアの政治家、外交官。東部ジャワ生まれ。1942年ジャカルタ医科大学卒業。1947年情報次官、1954年初代駐ソ大使を経て1957年外相。華僑(かきょう)二重国籍問題、西イリアン解放など反帝反植民地の非同盟外交を推進。1963年第一副首相、外相、中央情報局長官を兼務、急進的スカルノ体制の一中心人物となる。1965年の「九月三〇日事件」に連座したとして逮捕、1966年軍事特別法廷において死刑判決を受けたが、1970年終身刑に減刑された。1995年8月、独立50周年を機に「老齢と健康悪化」を配慮して30年ぶりに釈放された。
