An Indonesian doctor and one of the leaders of the nationalist movement. Born in Central Java, he entered the Indigenous Doctors Training School in 1903. In 1907, he met the elderly doctor Wahidin Sudirovsod, who was campaigning for the establishment of a scholarship system, and was so moved by his passion that he and his classmates worked hard to found Indonesia's first nationalist organization, Budi Utomo. However, this organization, which was founded in 1908, soon lost its initial vitality, so he separately organized the "General Research Association" in Surabaya. He passed away just before the Second World War, much to the regret of many. He is considered one of the Indonesian national heroes.

インドネシアの医師，民族主義運動指導者の1人。中部ジャワに生れ，1903年に先住民医師養成学校に入学。 07年に奨学金制度設置のために遊説中の老医師ワヒディン・スディロフソドに会い，その情熱に打たれて級友らとともにインドネシア最初の民族主義団体ブディ・ウトモ結成に尽力した。しかし，08年に成立したこの団体はまもなく当初の活力を失ったので，彼は別にスラバヤで「一般研究会」を組織した。第2次世界大戦直前に惜しまれつつ世を去った。インドネシア民族英雄の1人に数えられている。
