A small island in Toba Port, belonging to Toba City in the eastern part of Mie Prefecture. It was originally called Ojima. It is also called Mikimoto Pearl Island or Pearl Island. It is a square island with each side about 600 meters, and a bridge was built in 1970 (Showa 45), making it a 5-minute walk from Toba Station. It is famous as the island where Mikimoto Kokichi first succeeded in pearl farming in 1893 (Meiji 26). On the island, there is a pearl museum where you can see the entire pearl farming process, a model pearl processing factory, and a diving demonstration by female divers.
