Anorexia nervosa
A disease that commonly affects adolescent girls, the main symptoms of which are extreme abstinence from food and severe thinness. It is also called adolescent anorexia or anorexia nervosa. This disease was first described in 1689 by the Englishman R. Morton, and named by W. W. Gull in 1873. It is said that there has been a worldwide increase in cases in recent years. Abnormal eating behavior includes not eating, stealing food, and excessive overeating, as well as vomiting and laxative abuse. Physical symptoms include thinness and amenorrhea, which almost always occurs.

思春期の女子に好発する,極度の不食と高度のやせとを主徴とする病気。青春期やせ症,拒食症などともいわれる。この病気はイギリスのモートンR.Mortonにより1689年にはじめて記載され,1873年にガルW.W.Gullにより命名された。近年は世界的に増加傾向があるとされる。摂食行動の異常としては,不食のほかに盗み食い,激しい過食などもみられ,また嘔吐,下剤乱用もある。身体症状としては,やせ以外に無月経がほとんど必発する。
