Shirokawa [town] - Shirokawa

Japanese: 城川[町] - しろかわ

A former town in Higashiuwa District, southern Ehime Prefecture. It occupies the Kurose River basin, a tributary of the Hiji River. It is a mountain village rich in forest resources and produces timber. It practices livestock and dairy farming, and sericulture, and also produces rice, chestnuts, vegetables, and shiitake mushrooms. A bus runs from Unomachi Station on the Yosan Line. In April 2004, it merged with Sanpei Town in Nishiuwa District, and Akehama Town, Uwa Town, and Nomura Town in Higashiuwa District to form Seiyo City. 127.31 ^km2 . 4,696 people (2003).
