Located in Sannomiya-cho, Hakusan City, Ishikawa Prefecture. Commonly known as "Hakusan". The deities enshrined are Hakusan Hime-no-kami (Kikurihime-no-kami), Izanagi-no-mikoto, and Izanami-no-mikoto. A shrine listed in the Engishiki, Kaga Baba is one of the three Hakusan Baba (the other two are Echizen Baba and Mino Baba) that were established in the early 9th century as the starting point for the path to climb Hakusan. It is also Kaga Ichinomiya. The exact date of its founding is unclear, but it began with worshiping the sacred mountain Hakusan as a sacred mountain, and the shrine's tradition states that it was founded in the 7th year of the reign of Emperor Sujin. In 853 (Jinju 3), he was awarded the rank of Jusanmi (Junior Third Rank) (Montoku Jitsuroku), and in 859 (Jogan 1), he was awarded the rank of Shosanmi (Senior Third Rank). In the Middle Ages, it was known as one of the Seven Hakusan Shrines, and is said to have had 3,000 monks. It was affectionately known as Hakusan Hongu and Hakusan Temple, but was renamed to its current name after the separation of Shinto and Buddhism following the Meiji Restoration. It was formerly a nationally-beloved medium-sized shrine. The annual festival is held on May 6th, and the Umegako Festival is held, in which plum branches are offered to the altar in traditional style. There are many shrine treasures, including the sword inscribed Yoshimitsu (National Treasure) and the Hakusan Honjinno Shotoki (National Important Cultural Property).
