Shirahama [town] - Shirahama
A town in Nishimuro District, southern Wakayama Prefecture. The city center is on the south shore of Tanabe Bay. In the past, it was a hot spring resort called Muro-no-yu. After the opening of the Kisei West Line (now the Kisei Main Line), it rapidly developed into a major hot spring town in Nanki. Shirahama Onsen is the collective name for Yuzaki, Shirahama, and others, and is a pure salt spring. 40-88°C. There are scenic spots such as Senjojiki, Sandanbeki, Engetsuto, and fossil lotus root (natural history), a habitat for giant eels (natural history), and Tsubaki Onsen. There is Nanki Shirahama Airport, and the Kisei Expressway runs through it. Lumber, vegetable cultivation, and yellowtail farming are also popular in the surrounding area. In March 2006, Hikigawa Town, Nishimuro District, was incorporated. 200.96 km2 . 22,696 people (2010).

An old town in Awa District, at the southern tip of the Boso Peninsula in Chiba Prefecture. Almost the entire town is hilly. Abalone, turban shells, and spiny lobsters are caught in large quantities by female divers. Rice, flowers, and vegetables are cultivated. Cape Nojima is located here, and the coast is one of the centers of Minamiboso Quasi-National Park. In March 2006, it merged with Awa District's Tomiura Town, Toyama Town, Chikura Town, Maruyama Town, Wada Town, and Miyoshi Village to become a city, Minamiboso City. Area: 17.07 km2 . Population: 6,016 (2003).

和歌山県南部,西牟婁(にしむろ)郡の町。中心市街は田辺湾の南岸にあり,古くは牟婁ノ湯といわれた温泉場で,紀勢西線(現在の紀勢本線)開通後,南紀の大温泉町として急激に発展。白浜温泉は湯崎,白良浜(しらはま)などの総称で,純食塩泉。40〜88℃。千畳敷,三段壁,円月島,化石漣痕(れんこん)(天然記然物)などの奇勝,オオウナギ生息地(天然記然物),椿温泉がある。南紀白浜空港があり,紀勢自動車道が通じる。周辺で製材,野菜栽培,ハマチ養殖も盛ん。2006年3月西牟婁郡日置川町を編入。200.96km2。2万2696人(2010)。

千葉県房総半島南端にある安房(あわ)郡の旧町。全町ほとんど丘陵地。海女(あま)によるアワビ,サザエ,イセエビの漁獲が多い。米,花,野菜の栽培を行う。野島崎があり,海岸は南房総国定公園の一中心。2006年3月,安房郡富浦町,富山町,千倉町,丸山町,和田町,三芳村と合併し市制,南房総市となる。17.07km2。6016人(2003)。
