Laws of various professions - Shoshihatto

Also known as the Hatamoto Law. It is a law established by the Edo Shogunate, and is the basic law for controlling the Hatamoto and Gokenin, who were direct vassals of the Shogunate. It corresponds to the Buke Shohatto, the basic law for controlling daimyo, and was issued in 1632 (Kan'ei 9) and improved in 1635. It consists of 23 articles in total. It shows the standards that direct vassals should follow in many areas, such as loyalty and filial piety, military service, frugality, marriage, behavior, messages, quarrels, fires, conscription, land, disputes, peasant affairs, inheritance, cliques, business, and clothing. The military service regulations in Article 2 corresponded to the establishment of the Military Service Order in 1900, and Article 15 prohibited disputes between Hatamoto and absorbed disputes over mountains and water into the Shogunate's legal system. After the fifth Shogun, Tokugawa Tsunayoshi, it was abolished and replaced with the "Buke Shohatto".
