A town in Shiki County, Nara Prefecture. It occupies almost the center of the Nara Basin, with the Asuka River and Soga River flowing through the town. In addition to rice, vegetables and fruit are cultivated. Leather processing is thriving, and shell buttons are also produced. 奈良県磯城(しき)郡の町。奈良盆地のほぼ中央部を占め，町域を飛鳥(あすか)川，曾我川が流れる。米作のほか蔬菜，果実の栽培を行う。皮革加工業が盛ん。貝ボタンも産する。近鉄橿原(かしはら)線・田原本(たわらもと)線が通じる。4.06km2。7440人（2005）。
