A Soto Zen monk from the late Kamakura period. Keizan Jokin. A native of Echizen, he was the founder of Noto Sojiji Temple (the predecessor to Tsurumi Sojiji Temple in Yokohama). He opened several temples in Hokuriku and Shikoku, and educated the masses. He answered Emperor Godaigo's ten questions, received an imperial plaque, and laid the foundation for the development of the Soto Zen sect. He is known as the founder of the Soto Zen sect. His posthumous name was Josai Daishi.
