He was originally a forest god, and was sometimes called Fatuus (meaning "speaker"), as a god who conveyed prophecies, because mysterious sounds heard in the forest were thought to be his voice. His temple was located on an island in the Tiber River, and the Faunalia festival was held there on February 13. …
