A village in Gujo County, central Gifu Prefecture. In 1970, Okumagata Village was renamed Myogata Village, and was renamed again in 1992. Population: 2,153 (1995). Most of the village area is made up of mountainous areas with an elevation of over 1,000 meters, including Mt. Eboshi, and settlements are scattered along the Yoshida River, a tributary of the Nagara River that flows south through the center. In the Middle Ages, it belonged to Kera Sho, and was under the influence of Chotaki-ji Temple, one of the centers of worship at Mt. Hakusan. 岐阜県中部,郡上(ぐじよう)郡の村。1970年奥明方村が改称して明方(みょうがた)村となり,さらに92年改称。人口2153(1995)。村域の大部分は烏帽子(えぼし)岳をはじめとする標高1000m級の山地によって占められ,中央を南流する長良川支流の吉田川沿いに集落が点在する。中世には気良(けら)荘に属し,白山信仰の拠点の一つ,長滝寺の影響下にあった。江戸時代には郡上藩領になり,木地屋の集落もあった。
