Arne - Thomas Augustine Arne

A representative British composer of the mid-18th century. The famous patriotic national song "Rule Britannia" was taken from his masque "Alfred" in 1740. He received his doctorate in music from Oxford University in 1759. In addition to numerous operas, music for plays by Shakespeare and others, oratorios "Abel" (1744) and "Judith" (1761), cantatas, and songs, he also composed instrumental works such as overtures, symphonies, trio sonatas, and clavier sonatas.

18世紀中葉のイギリスを代表する作曲家。有名な愛国的国民歌『ルール・ブリタニア』は、1740年の彼の仮面劇『アルフレッド』からとられたものである。1759年にはオックスフォード大学の音楽博士となっている。多数のオペラ、シェークスピアなどの劇のための音楽、『アベル』（1744）、『ジュディス』（1761）というオラトリオ、カンタータ、歌曲に加え、序曲や交響曲、トリオ・ソナタ、クラビア・ソナタなどの器楽曲もある。
