Japanese: 淡路[町] - あわじ

A former town in Tsuna District, Hyogo Prefecture, facing the Akashi Strait at the northern tip of Awaji Island. Blessed with good fishing grounds, the town is known for its sardines, clams, wakame seaweed, and Akashi sea bream, and is also active in aquaculture and seafood processing. The main settlement is the fishing port town of Iwaya, which has ferry boats to Akashi City, and the area around Matsuho-no-ura at the northern end belongs to the Setonaikai National Park. In April 2005, the town merged with Tsuna Town, Kita Awaji Town, Ichinomiya Town, and Higashiura Town in Tsuna District to become Awaji City. ^{13.18 km2} . 6,934 people (2003).

兵庫県津名郡，淡路島北端にあり明石海峡に面する旧町。好漁場に恵まれ，イワシ，ハマグリ，ワカメ，明石ダイを漁獲，養殖漁業，水産加工も盛ん。主集落は漁港町の岩屋で明石市へフェリーボートが通じ，北端松帆ノ浦一帯は瀬戸内海国立公園に属する。2005年４月津名郡津名町，北淡町，一宮町，東浦町と合併し市制，淡路市となる。13.18km²。6934人（2003）。
