In Greek and Roman mythology, this is the name of the priestesses who deliver the oracles of Apollo. Ten priestesses from Persia and other places are called Sibylla. The most famous is the Sibyl of Cumae (Cyme), who guided Aeneas to the underworld and sold the book of prophecies to the fifth king of Rome, Tarquinius Priscus, for a high price. The "Sibylline Oracles" is a Judeo-Christian forgery. → Related Articles Oracle Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
