A Hungarian-born composer. He was active mainly in Vienna, and together with Lehár, he shared the popularity of the "Silver Age" of Viennese operetta. His works are characterized by beautiful, melancholy melodies that blend Hungarian Roma (formerly known as gypsies) music, csárdás, with Viennese waltzes. His representative works include "Queen of the Csárdás" (1915) and "Countess Maritsa" (1924). Other works include "Autumn Exercises" (1908), "Queen of the Circus" (1926), and "Violets of Montmartre" (1930). He died in Paris.
