Yugoslav writer, philosopher, and educator. Serbia's greatest enlightenment thinker. During his time as a monk in Dalmatia (1761-71), he studied ancient literature and Byzantine culture. After returning to secular life, he stayed in Vienna, Paris, London, and other cities, learning the most advanced knowledge in Europe at the time, which he used to educate the Serbian people after their liberation. He was active in many areas, including serving as Serbian Minister of Education and founding a university in Belgrade, but the turbulent first half of his life is detailed in his autobiography, Life and Adventures (1783, 1788).

ユーゴスラビアの文学者，哲学者，教育者。セルビア最大の啓蒙思想家。修道士としてダルマツィア滞在時代(1761‐71)に古代文学とビザンティン文化を研究。還俗後ウィーン，パリ，ロンドンなどに滞在し，当時のヨーロッパ最高の知識を学び，解放後のセルビア人教化に役立てた。セルビアの文部大臣を務め，ベオグラードに大学を造るなど多方面に活躍したが，その波乱に富んだ前半生は自伝《生涯と冒険》(1783,1788)に詳しい。
