Cyclobutane - cyclobutane

Japanese: シクロブタン - しくろぶたん（英語表記）cyclobutane

A four-membered ring hydrocarbon. It is a colorless gas at room temperature. Its melting point is below -80°C and its boiling point is 12°C. The four carbon atoms are not on the same plane, but have a bent structure as shown in the figure. The bent angle is about 25 degrees. It is obtained by reacting 1,3-dibromopropane with diethyl malonate in the presence of sodium ethoxide, hydrolyzing and decarboxylating it to produce cyclobutanecarboxylic acid, which is then decarboxylated. The cyclobutane ring is distorted, but unlike cyclopropane, it is not prone to ring-opening reactions.

4員環の炭化水素。常温で無色の気体。融点－80℃以下，沸点12℃。4個の炭素原子は同一平面上にはなく，図のように折れ曲がった構造をしている。折れ曲りの角度は約25度である。1,3‐ジブロモプロパンとマロン酸ジエチルとをナトリウムエトキシドの存在下に反応させ，加水分解，脱炭酸を経てシクロブタンカルボン酸とし，これを脱炭酸して得る。シクロブタン環はひずみをもつが，シクロプロパンとちがって環開裂反応はしにくい。
