〘noun〙① Under the Ritsuryo system, two servants (jicho/tsukaenoyoboro) were conscripted from among the Shocho in each province at a ratio of two per 50 households and employed to perform miscellaneous tasks in central government offices. These were the ones who were actually employed. A standing servant . Those who shared tasks such as cooking for the Chocho were called Shicho . *Ryo Gikai (718) officials: "Thirty Kamibe, twenty Urabe, thirty Shibu, two Chocho." ② One of the Meiji Daijokan systems. Officials of the Toneri Bureau of the Daijokan (later Shikiburyo) and the Naitonei Bureau of the Imperial Household Ministry. 〘名〙① 令制で、諸国の正丁の中から五〇戸に二人の割合で徴集され、中央諸官司で雑役に使役された仕丁(じちょう・つかえのよぼろ)のうち、実際に駆使された者。立丁(りってい)。直丁のための汲炊などの仕事を分担した者を厮丁(しちょう)と称する。※令義解（718）職員「神部卅人。卜部廿人。使部卅人。直丁二人」② 明治の太政官制度の一つ。太政官の舎人局（のち式部寮）と宮内省の内舎人局の職員。雑役、宿直に従事。※太政官布告第八〇二‐明治三年（1870）一一月七日「舎人局直丁掌宮中雑使」
