A town in Kato District, Hokkaido. The northern part of the town is mountainous, continuing on from the Daisetsuzan mountain range, and the southern part is the Tokachi Plain. It is located south of Daisetsuzan National Park. Its main industries are field crops and dairy farming, and it also processes agricultural and livestock products. It is home to Lake Shikaribetsu, Shikaribetsu Onsen, and a Japan Ground Self-Defense Force garrison. It has an area of 402.88 km2 . It has a population of 5,702 (2010).
