Born: November 14, 1838 in Zagreb Died: December 13, 1881, Zagreb. Croatian writer. Active in politics, literary criticism, and theater criticism, he advocated realism. His novels advocating democracy include Zlatarovo zlato (The Goldsmith's Gold), Prosjak Luka (The Beggar), and Seljačka buna (The Peasant Revolt) (1877).
