Sanbei Ikki - Sanhe Iikki

Japanese:
Sanbei Ikki - Sanhe Iikki
A peasant uprising occurred in Morioka Domain during the Edo Period. In the Sanhei-Ichi area (an area along the Pacific coast), where commerce and industry flourished in the late Edo Period, several thousand farmers and fishermen rose up in revolt in 1847 in response to the Domain's strengthening of the monopoly system and the imposition of temporary government taxes. They appealed to Tono, where the Domain's senior vassals were located, and their demands were meted out to the Domain. However, the Domain did not comply with their demands and punished them. In 1853, more than 10,000 people rose up in revolt again, fleeing to the Sendai Domain and protesting the government's misrule. As a result of negotiations that lasted six months, many of their demands were meted out, including the abolition of new taxes and distribution controls, and they also obtained a promise not to punish the revolt leaders.
