A former town in Miyazaki County, central Miyazaki Prefecture. It is on the Nippō Main Line and adjacent to Miyazaki City. The town center, located on the right bank of the downstream Hitotsuse River, is the former castle town of the Shimazu clan of Sadowara Domain. In addition to rice and livestock farming, vegetable cultivation is also thriving. Persimmons are also produced. In January 2006, it was incorporated into Miyazaki City along with Takaoka Town in Higashimorokata County and Tano Town in Miyazaki County. 56.84 km2 .
