A wild sheep of the Bovidae family in the order Artiodactyla. Its body length is about 1.5 m, and its shoulder height is about 1.2 m. Its horns are long, sometimes reaching 2 m in length along the curve. The base of the horn is thick and angular, but the tip is rounded and points outward, twisting like a swirl. It is active in the early morning and evening, and mainly eats grasses. It lives in small herds, but adult males leave the herds and live alone on high rocky areas during the summer. It is distributed in the Altai Mountains, Tian Shan Mountains, Tibet, the Pamir Plateau, Nepal, and Mongolia, and lives on high rocky areas, plateaus in valleys, and grasslands. 偶蹄目ウシ科の野生のヒツジ。体長 1.5m内外,肩高 1.2m内外。角は長大で,曲りに沿った長さが 2mに達することもある。角の基部は太くて角張っているが,先端は丸くて外方に向い,渦のようにねじれる。早朝および夕方活動し,おもに草類を食べる。小群をつくってすむが,成獣の雄は夏の間群れから離れて高い岩場に単独でいる。アルタイ山脈,天山山脈,チベット,パミール高原,ネパール,モンゴルに分布し,高地の岩場や谷間の高原や草原にすんでいる。
