A 7th century graveyard in Suffolk, England. Located across from Woodbridge, it is a famous site that has provided indispensable materials for research on the Anglo-Saxon period, having unearthed the richest collection of artefacts in England in the 1938-39 excavation of the East Anglian king's ship tomb. Excavations continued in the 1960s, and great efforts are being made to study the excavated items in detail. There are more than a dozen tombs, the largest of which contained a 27m long ship with 38 rowers. In the central cabin, a flag and a whetstone-shaped scepter thought to be symbols of the royal family were excavated, as well as Swedish helmets and shields, chain mail, swords, spears, knives, axes, gold buckles, purses, gold coins from the Merovingian dynasty, vessels including silver plates from the Byzantine Empire and copper bowls from the Coptic period, and musical instruments, but no burial of remains was confirmed.
