Cai Yong - Saiyou

A Chinese literati and scholar of the Later Han Dynasty. His courtesy name was Boxi. He was from Chenliu (Henan Province). He was erudite and well versed in astronomy, music, and other subjects, and was also known for his excellent writing and playing the koto. During the reign of Emperor Ling (168-189), he became a Langzhong, edited books at Dongguan, and became a Yilang. In 175 (4th year of Xiping), together with Ma Ridi and others, he edited the characters of the Six Classics, carved them into stone himself, and erected them outside the gate of the Taigaku. This is called the Xiping Stone Classic. He was later summoned by Dong Zhuo and became a Left Middle Lang, but when Zhuo was executed, he was arrested and died in prison. His books include "Doudan" and "Cai Zhonglang Shu." The poet Cai Yan (Wenji) was his daughter.

中国、後漢(ごかん)の文人、学者。字(あざな)は伯喈(はくかい)。陳留（河南省）の人。博学で天文、音楽などの学問に通じ、文章にも優れ、琴(きん)の名手としても知られた。霊帝（在位168〜189）のときに郎中(ろうちゅう)となり東観で書物を校訂し、議郎となった。175年（熹平4）馬日磾(ばじつてい)らと六経(りくけい)の文字を校定し、自ら石に刻んで太学(たいがく)門外に立てた。これを熹平石経(きへいせきけい)という。のちに董卓(とうたく)に召されて左中郎となったが、卓が誅(ちゅう)されると捕らえられて獄中で死んだ。著書に『独断』『蔡中郎集』がある。詩人の蔡琰(さいえん)（文姫）は彼の娘である。
