Guilt feeling

Japanese: 罪責感 - ざいせきかん（英語表記）guilt feeling

Generally, it is the consciousness or emotion of blaming oneself for having committed a serious fault by going against the requirements or prohibitions of a norm. Since norms differ depending on religion, ethnicity, social group, etc., the formation, form, and content of guilt also differ accordingly. It is said that hypersensitive guilt, which is one of the characteristics of the melancholic type, which is the premorbid personality of depression, or the obsessive personality, is prominent in both Japan and Germany. Guilt can range from normal levels to neurotic levels and psychotic (especially depressive) levels, and in the latter case it often takes the form of a delusion of culpability.

一般に，規範の要求や禁止にそむいて重大な過失を犯したという理由で自己を責めさいなむ意識や感情。規範は宗教，民族，社会集団などによって異なるから，罪責感の形成，形式，内容もそれに応じて異なる。鬱（うつ）病の病前性格であるメランコリー型，あるいは執着性格の特徴の一つである過敏な罪責感は，日独両国に顕著であるといわれる。罪責感には正常な範囲のものから，神経症レベルのもの，精神病(ことに鬱病)レベルのものがあり，後者では罪業妄想delusion of culpabilityの形をとることが多い。
