Japanese: 西条[市] - さいじょう

A city located in the northeastern part of Ehime Prefecture, facing the Hiuchi Nada Sea. It was incorporated as a city in 1941. It was originally a castle town of the Ichiyanagi clan's Saijo Castle, built on the alluvial fan of the Kamo River during the Kan'ei era, and later developed as a castle town of the Matsudaira clan. Since the Meiji era, it has been the center of the Toyo region. Blessed with water, there are many artesian springs called Utanuki. Since the establishment of the Saijo factory of Kurashiki Rayon (now Kuraray) in 1936, industrialization has progressed with the reclamation of the coast, and it is the core of the Toyo New Industrial City. Mandarin orange cultivation is also thriving. It is connected by the Yosan Line, Matsuyama Expressway, and Imabari-Komatsu Road, and the mountainous area in the south belongs to Ishizuchi Quasi-National Park. In November 2004, Toyo City, Komatsu Town in Shuso District, and Tanbara Town were incorporated. Area: 509.98 ^km2 . Population: 112,091 (2010).

愛媛県北東部，燧灘(ひうちなだ)に面する市。1941年市制。寛永年間に加茂川扇状地に築かれた一柳氏の西条城の城下町，のち松平氏の城下町として発達，明治以後は東予地方の中心地であった。水に恵まれ，打抜という自噴水が多く，1936年倉敷レイヨン（現，クラレ）西条工場設立以来，海岸の埋立てに伴って工業化が進み，東予新産業都市の中核をなしている。ミカン栽培も盛ん。予讃線，松山自動車道，今治小松道路が通じ，南部の山地は石鎚国定公園に属する。2004年11月東予市，周桑郡小松町，丹原町を編入。509.98km²。11万2091人（2010）。
