Listening in the Dark

...an expert in the analysis of animal behavior and orientation. He is particularly famous for his research that revealed that bats use echolocation to locate themselves and catch flying insects by emitting ultrasonic waves in the dark and receiving the echoes with their ears. His book "Bats and Ultrasound: Listening in the Dark" (1958), which compiled his research, has become a classic in this field. His book "Do Animals Have Minds?" (1976), which discussed the continuity of the minds of animals and humans, also drew a great deal of attention.
