Japanese: ゴムノキ

In Japan, the term usually refers to the Rubber Tree, which is grown in pots as an interior decoration, but in tropical regions it was once widely cultivated to extract elastic rubber from its sap. Currently, the plant primarily used industrially as a source of rubber is the Para Tree, native to South America. Also, the Acacia acacia, a legume native to Senegal in West Africa, produces gum arabic, an adhesive.

日本では普通インドゴムノキをさし，室内装飾用として鉢植えなどにするが，熱帯地方では，かつてその樹液から弾性ゴムを採取するために盛んに栽培された。現在，ゴム資源植物として，産業的におもに利用されているのは南米原産のパラゴムノキ。また西アフリカ，セネガル原産のマメ科のアラビアゴムノキからは接着剤のアラビアゴムが得られる。
