Koma clan

A clan of ancient immigrants. Also written as Koma clan or Kyoman clan. They came from Goryeo (Koguryo). They were skilled as craftsmen in dyeing leather. The majority of them changed their surname to Murasaki during the reign of Emperor Tenmu (→ surname). Under the ritsuryo system, the Komabe were incorporated into the Ministry of Finance as Tomobe (→ Ritsuryo system). 古代の渡来人系の氏。高麗氏，巨万氏とも書く。高麗（高句麗）から渡来。工匠として染革などに長じていた。主流は天武朝に連に改姓（→姓）。狛部は令制下，伴部として大蔵省に編入（→律令制）。
