[Raw]? Echizen [Died] Enpo 5 (1677). A master craftsman of new swords in the early Edo period. His name was Okiri, and later he shaved his head and took the name Kotetsu. He lived in Chosone Village in Omi, and later moved to Echizen and Fukui, where he initially worked as an armorer. At the beginning of the Meireki era (1655-58), after turning 50, he became a blacksmith, and moved to Edo, where he forged swords. His style was characterized by the unique development of techniques for juzu-ha and gunome-midare, which took the world by storm. He was at his peak in Kanbun 10 (70), when he died at the age of over 80. His signature changed over the years, from Kotetsu, Kotetsu, Katsutetsu, to Tora-nyudo.
