This Shingon sect temple was located in Nishiki-cho, Kanda, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo. It began in 1688 (Genroku 1) when Ryuko (1649-1724), who had received the patronage of the 5th Tokugawa Shogun Tsunayoshi, moved Chisoku-in in Yushima. In 1695, it became a place of prayer for the Shogunate and was renamed Goji-in. Ryuko became the head priest of the Shingon sect of Buddhism's Shingi school and passed on his teachings to the Chisan and Buzan schools. Goji-in was therefore superior to the Chisan and Buzan schools and enjoyed great influence, but after Tsunayoshi's death Ryuko left and the temple gradually declined. When it burned down in 1717 (Kyoho 2), the shogunate merged it with Gokokuji Temple in Otowa (Otsuka, Bunkyo Ward) and called the main temple Gojiin, but after the Meiji period, this name was abolished.
