A historical book that records the origins of the ancient Inbe clan. Written by Inbe Hironari, it was completed in 807 (Daido 2). The Inbe clan, who were in charge of rituals, wrote down the legends of the Inbe clan that were not included in official history, in opposition to the Nakatomi clan, who were in a similar position and had become increasingly powerful. To be precise, this book is a petition submitted by the Inbe clan, and the name "Kogo Shui" was given to it by later generations. It begins with the story of the creation of the country by the two gods Izanagi and Izanami, and the birth myth of the gods, and covers events up to the time of 757 (Tenpyo Houji 1). It is a valuable document of ancient history that rivals the Kojiki and Nihonshoki, including the legends of the Inbe clan.
