A village in the northwest of Dogo, Oki Islands, Oki District, Shimane Prefecture. Population 2,247 (1995). Surrounded by mountains with an elevation of around 500m, the Omosu River basin runs west through the center of the village, and has a relatively wide alluvial plain that is used for rice paddies. Takeshima, which lies 157km off the northwest coast and is disputed with South Korea, belongs to the village. Agriculture, forestry and fisheries are the main industries, and rice is the main focus, as well as beef cattle and oyster farming, and shiitake mushroom cultivation. 島根県隠岐郡,隠岐諸島島後(どうご)北西部の村。人口2247(1995)。周囲を標高500m前後の山に囲まれ,中央部を西流する重栖(おもす)川流域には比較的広い沖積平野があり,水田地帯となっている。北西沖合157kmにあり,韓国との間で係争中の竹島は当村に属している。農林水産業が基幹産業で,稲作を中心に肉用牛,カキの養殖のほか,シイタケ栽培も行われる。郡(こおり)に隠岐国一宮の水若酢神社が鎮座する。
