〘noun〙① To capture and detain. To detain. Currently, a person is detained in a detention center for a period of one to 30 days, restricting their freedom. It is imposed for minor crimes such as violations of the Minor Offenses Act. In law, it is used to distinguish it from "detention." ※Criminal Code (1880) Article 28: "Detention shall be in a detention facility and the person shall not be required to serve fixed term labor. The term of detention shall be one to ten days."
